The best mosaic course in England....nay, the world!! Booked for something fun to do as a family whilst on holiday near Otley and we were absolutely blown away by how fun it was. The mosaics we made were great, despite our teenage son saying he was no good at arty things, he produced something that was brilliant! Frances is a wonderful teacher, kind, patient, interesting and hilarious! She made it just the best experience ever in her well equipped and cosy workshop. We have to do this again!   - Nita  Nov 24

What a wonderfully relaxing and fun way to spend an afternoon; on the Mosaic Mania Christmas Bauble workshop.

Had my doubts how I'd get on, not being particularly creative, but Frances is so friendly and enthusiastic, it was hard not to come away with something I felt rather proud to have made.

Frances's workspace is packed with lots of lovely goodies and she's brimming with inspiration, help and advice, so our little group were soon chatting away making lovely decorations.

Frances offers lots of other workshops where you can have a go at any design you like, but this one is a great way to have a go if you've not tried the craft of mosaic before.

A very enjoyable day with Frances and others who were more experienced. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming - don’t be afraid to do it alone as you will quickly be part of the g roup. The venue is cosy and welcoming and Frances is an energetic and resourceful tutor who quickly puts you at your ease - nothing seems too much trouble. This   was by far the best Mosaic course I’ve attended. Being a small group, Frances was able to give us attention and advice on our individual projects. Her skills and knowledge are amazing, and I learned so much from her. The wide range of materials available was impressive, and the studio was very inviting and comfortable and it was inspiring seeing mosaics in various stages of development. What a fabulous day! We did the whole day mosaic course and thoroughly enjoyed every single minute. It was a great combination of instruction and being allowed to get on ourselves. Also a good balance of being allowed to be creative and having a supply of templates to choose from alongside the experience of Frances when required for advice. We worked with other novice mosaicers as well as repeat offenders. I would definitely recommend this course to others. It’s quite possible that we will be going back for another day. PS. Frances was welcoming, incredibly talented, a great teacher, and the studio was in the most stunning setting. Frances was generous with her time, knowledge and copious amounts of refreshments and yummy snacks. Fantastic day yesterday on a mosaic day course with Frances. As a complete novice I was a bit nervous. I had a lovely time doing a full day beginners workshop with Frances. I had never done any mosaic work before but I came out with a striking sunflower on a slate background which is now hanging outside on my garden wall. Frances has a pleasantly relaxed teaching style & gave me just the right amount of guidance to produce a piece I can be proud of. I would certainly recommend this as a great day doing something both relaxing & productive. I am hoping to be back soon. -  Elaine  Oct 24

I’d really recommend a course with Frances as she’s enthusiastic, experienced and really helpful in her approach. We’d never done mosaics before, and booked a half day course where we made one mosaic each. The studio is lovely and well stocked and Frances is very generous in her advice and teaching. I was looking forward to it, but it exceeded my expectations. I thought you got an ideal balance between being instructed in exactly what to do and doing our own thing- we were obviously free to do anything we liked, but with plenty of help and ideas available if we preferred. It was a nice friendly and unpressured atmosphere. We spent a fab day at Frances’ mosaic studio in her garden by the river in Otley.   A great setting.  Frances was a warm and friendly person who kept us supplied with hot drinks and biscuits all day long.

Frances is an inspiring teacher with loads of ideas of things for us to make.   All the equipment and an enormous selection of gorgeous mosaic tiles all ready and waiting for us to get creative, with lots of help and guidance.  All six of us made some great things.  A really good day. - Frances B Feb 24

Frances was a great teacher and host, and all six of us attending ended up with some great pieces.  Some of us went with an idea of what we wanted to make but Frances had lots of examples for us to follow if needed.  Frances provided all the equipment we needed and had a vast selection of mosaic tiles for us to choose from. Would thoroughly recommend!!! - Carol Feb 24

I thoroughly enjoyed my mosaic workshop and would highly recommend. I had never done mosaic before but was delighted with what I was able to achieve in a full day session. Frances was full of helpful tips, reassurance and guidance but was also happy to step back and let me find my own way when needed. I really enjoyed this course with Frances who I found to be an insightful and helpful tutor. There was an amazing amount of tiles in different textures, colours and shapes, together with templates and other materials. The workshop had a range of Frances's work for examples and inspiration. I recently attended a 1 Day Workshop run by Frances and was really impressed with the standard of teaching, her infinite patience and the wide variety of materials available to choose from.  The size of the group was just right and there was a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the course of the day.  Having chosen my design from one of the many options open to us I felt confident in getting started in spite of being a complete beginner as Frances gave comprehensive instructions which were easy to follow and she was happy to advise on any queries and even lend a hand if needed.  I thoroughly enjoyed the day and was very pleased with the end result which Frances also taught me how to grout at a separate session which was included in the overall price.  All in all, this was a great experience and very reasonably priced for the tuition, materials and time involved and I highly recommend it.  - Cheryl, May 2022

Did the day course in December to make an outdoor mosaic. Had a great time. Frances was very supportive, offering help and advice where needed and stepping back when she was not needed. I did the half-day workshop and it was a great introduction to mosaic making. Frances is very knowledgeable and encouraging and I'm pleased with my first mosaic creation! Most of our group did the full-day workshop and produced some lovely things (some of us went back a few days later to grout our work) and with hindsight I wish I'd done the full day too. If you fancy spending a few hours doing something creative and relaxing in convivial company, I'd recommend that you give one of Frances' workshops a go. - Caroline  2018

I am addicted to mosaic since my first course with Frances a year ago. I received a mosaic gift voucher for my birthday and that was it! The courses are relaxed and fun and every time I have been I have met some lovely people from those who know what they're doing to those like me a complete novice who has never held a pair of tile cutters!  If you have no clue about mosaic don't worry because Frances is very patient and explains everything you need to know. The riverbank studio is just that, in a large garden leading down to the river, where on a warm day you can sit and have your sandwiches if you want. I would absolutely recommend France's courses if you want to try something different. - Caroline 2018

I bought a day's course for a friend for her birthday and went along as well. Neither of us are artistic or do creative activities! Frances made us feel very welcome and supplied a good mixture of teaching, encouragement and letting us get on with it. Creating a mosaic is a good way to zen-like state as it turns out; enough to occupy the hands and eyes, but not stressful and at the end of day you have a beautiful object. Frances facilitates this process with kindness and great experience and knowledge. The purpose built studio sits in lovely surroundings above the river and we somehow produced beautiful mosaic tiles and had a lovely restorative day! - Sarah 2017
